Level 2 Early Years Practitioner
L2 Apprenticeship for the Early Years Practitioner
An apprenticeship is a valuable and recognised programme where apprentices learn on the job, building up knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money all at the same time. There are no set entry requirements for Apprenticeships, but you do have to be aged over 16.
The Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship is particularly suitable if you are a school leaver aged 16 to 18, or if you have little experience working in Early Years but want to take your first steps into the childcare sector.
The training is adaptable to suit your job requirements and is a very practical alternative to further or higher education, or to accepting employment without training.
What will I learn?
Your apprenticeship includes a diploma for the Early Years Practitioner, which covers all aspects of supporting child development in the early years, as well as the fundamental skills you need to work with children.
Most of your learning will take place on the job, supported by your mentor, manager, nursery colleagues and of course your trainer and assessor. In addition, you will attend day release sessions once a week during term time at our training centre in Exeter.
How long does it take?
The Level 2 apprenticeship will take 15 months with a combination of work-based learning and off the job training. This will also include Level 1 functional skills in Maths and English if you have not acquired GCSEs in school.
Equivalent educational level:
Level 2 is the same as 5 GCSE passes at grades A* to C.
Progression:
Typical job roles include Early Years Assistant, Nursery Assistant, Assistant Childminder, Nursery Practitioner. The next natural progression would be to undertake a Level 3 Apprenticeship for the Early Years Educator.
Testimonials
"Being an apprentice helped me gain confidence in communicating with both staff and children of different ages. It also allowed me to gain nationally recognised qualifications as well as giving me experience working in a nursery setting."
